Governance Training for independent panels and exclusions

About this Event

This course covers the duties of Independent Review Panel (IRP) members as outlined in the DfE Exclusions Guidance 2017. It is targeted at governors, panel members and clerks who need to be familiar with the exclusions process and be more confident in meeting their statutory duties.

The role of the IRP is to review the governing body’s decision not to reinstate a permanently excluded pupil. To do that the panel must be made up of trained independent members. This training also covers what governors and school leaders need to do should they be called to an IRP.

This is an important training session and it is vital that as many headteachers and Governors attend as this is mandatory training for any person who sits on an IRP.

This training will be cover:

 The Exclusion Guidance 2017 and the current law;

 Principles applying to an exclusion

 Role of the Governor disciplinary committee

 The make up and function of an Independent review panel (IRP) (powers, practice and procedure, etc)

 Outcomes of IRP decision and impact of getting it wrong!

Target: School leaders, Chairs of Governors, other governors and clerks.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS TRAINING IS FOR GOVERNORS, CLERKS AND SCHOOL LEADERS OF ODBST SCHOOLS ONLY
